We might as well
argue that our limit lies beyond the stars or perhaps there is no limit to
which our civilization can prosper, where our descendants will dominate the outreach
of cosmos. But as we know even the infinity is restricted by limit. The very
idea of infinity lies on our capacity to unable to imagine something so vast,
so beyond our prospect of imagination, something that does not exist in our
realm of thoughts. So in this extensive process where we are heading towards
the undisputed path of oblivion and nothing in the universe last forever where
does our limits last? Is there a border we will never be able to reach? Are
there places we may never discover despite every effort we put?
The answer might be
pretty disappointing. Sharing a deep affinity with the ever expanding universe,
it seems that our limit lies in the very limit of universe itself. Our solar
system is located in a remote corner of a 100,000 light year radius sized
spiral galaxy. Even the trip to the nearest star from the sun will take us
thousands of years with our current technology and crucial fact is we are not
even a multi planet species yet. So annexing the whole galaxy may take us hundreds
of thousands of years and travelling beyond the Milky Way is just myth in the
present time. We know from the current observations that the universe is expanding
and will keep on expanding for a long time in the future. Even with the future technology,
which we may never be able to imagine at the present, there is limit to which
we can travel in the universe; which is equivalent to the speed of light. But
if in the future with our super advanced technology it may be very possible to
travel at the greatest speed calculable and we could reach stars easily. But as
we move further and further discovering the secrets of cosmos we will reach a
certain point where there will be no return. See the universe expands so fast
that after travelling a certain distance in space, that thin line of beyond the
reach, the travelling body gets in a situation where return trip becomes impossible.
Expansion of the universe will reach to a point at which even travelling at the
speed of light cannot overcome the distance resulting due to expansion. So they
get forever lost, forever forgotten.
And the sad part is
the space time dilation that takes place when travelling at great speed (speed
of light). The astronauts in the travelling spaceship experience a different time frame.
They are actually younger than the people in normal motion i.e. the far they
travel the more years they live but without affecting their age which leaves
them the only surviving members of their generation which is pretty sad . So in the vast cosmos we
have a pretty scary limit. It is also quite depressing to think that there will
be places in the universe which we may never be able to touch and see. But we
never know what might happen in the future. There might be a new revolutionary
discoveries and invention which might shatter our present knowledge of the universe,
physics, mathematics, cosmology and rebuilt it with some stronger proofs and
verification. We may very well get help from species living in higher plane of
existence (4th, 5th dimensions) if there are any. So what
a time to be alive, live with freedom, prosperity, compassion and curious of
the unknown, wondering about the cosmos, following passion with little touch of
madness, enjoying operas and admiring cello, Hans Zimmer's music, loving each
other and being human. Hence we rather enjoy life and do what we humans excel
at: breaking the limits and go beyond. We will go slowly, but definitely.
Wonderful!
