STORY : Ambition (Vacation Assignment)

HOW FAR WILL YOU GO FOR AMBITION - Boyd Wilcox

They say home is where the heart lies. But my heart is wild and free.

Two thousand years since mankind found the remnants of advanced civilization on deep creeks of planet Mars, the integration with alien technology has opened new age of space exploration. Science and technology made a major breakthrough, governments and military rose and fell. Corporates developed and competition begun for space resources. Human civilization made a drastic turn. Artificial intelligence was harnessed and new era of space rivalry started. Military technology helped in terraforming many planets and trips to other star system was made. Federation, the most powerful organization for regulating balance and protecting the civilization from foreign beings was founded. Contacts with other life forms were made. Some were friendly, some were just on path to survival while some were threatening to our civilization. Wars were fought for survival and territory. Human controlled vast territory in the boundless cosmos and were type two civilization, struggling to harness type three. Along with military, space pirates also flourished. Space pirates traveled unhindered in the vast space and had dealing with various races and were considered important partners for trading and information circulation by the federation and similar organizations.

An azure spaceship was rushing to the asteroid cluster somewhere in the outer ring of the solar system. The asteroid shield that covers entire solar system is vast and boundless that spreads hundreds of light years. Inside the pirate spaceship, the size of a soccer field, a man was sitting on the seat of the commander. His eyes were wise but deep within one could see ambition and boundless spirit. The pirate group had received hints of nuclear reactor core of abandoned federation ship form pirate circle and had rushed here. I was eight years old when I was found in the war affected planet by head of the pirate ship, Captain Sirius. He saw ambitious child and granted me asylum in his pirate ship and since then 12 years has gone by. The pirate ship has made many adventures in the vast space and lot of dealings with many races. One of my most favorite was on planet Xylea, where city lord of a major metropolitan cheated us on goods and we robbed his entire store room for compensation. We were chased for four whole days and barely escaped. Pirate life is very fun for me. We have four star cannon in our ship and I am controller of the rear cannon. I am major player in the team when we operate cannon. I am good at it and love my work. We are wild and free pirate group who unhindered explore and travel the great cosmos.

Six hours after the exploration of the cluster of north asteroid belt we found the core and returned to nearby station. At about midnight, doorbell rang at the pavilion we were staying at and I answered the door. A sealed pack of the tropo military grade AI system was delivered on our front door. I was excited as another of our member was going to be equipped with AI system and I yelled," Captain! We got another one." Tropo military grade AI system was the battle backup system where if one is injured in a fight, the parts of the system can be used to replace with human organs and parts. It was one of breakthrough in medical science that was derived from advanced civilization remnants found on Mars. The AI system was a humanoid shaped parts that come in whole body package but can be used only by one person. It can strengthen the crew by another level. Rivis, who was going to be gifted the AI system took us to the pub and we celebrated. I was by the balcony railing enjoying the night breeze with wine in my hand and spirit of a pirate, unhindered and free.

Limits of humanity

We might as well argue that our limit lies beyond the stars or perhaps there is no limit to which our civilization can prosper, where our descendants will dominate the outreach of cosmos. But as we know even the infinity is restricted by limit. The very idea of infinity lies on our capacity to unable to imagine something so vast, so beyond our prospect of imagination, something that does not exist in our realm of thoughts. So in this extensive process where we are heading towards the undisputed path of oblivion and nothing in the universe last forever where does our limits last? Is there a border we will never be able to reach? Are there places we may never discover despite every effort we put? The answer might be pretty disappointing. Sharing a deep affinity with the ever expanding universe, it seems that our limit lies in the very limit of universe itself. Our solar system is located in a remote corner of a 100,000 light year radius sized spiral galaxy. Even the trip to the nea...

Post class reflection (August 14)

It was a lovely morning and the class begun at 9 o'clock sharp. Today's class was different from any other as we were presenting "The Stub Book". I was a little nervous to be frank and was discussing all sort of questions and process with my friend Aditya. As the class started Mr. Duwadi sir talked about online poll system and buzz words but the first link he sent was not accessible. But the next one worked which evaluated the answer students submitted. Next was the time for presentation part which was rushed as time was limited because we only have one hour class on Friday. Ashish and Anurag presented on " Adaptive Failure: Easter’s End." It was a beautiful presentation full of details, data and charts. They clarified the idea about the sustainable development and the consequences of not using the natural resources wisely. It talked about how unplanned activities may lead to destruction of the whole civilization. The poem that was presented at the end o...

Post class reflection (August 5)

It was a cloudy Wednesday and our ENGT class started at 1 pm.   Enjoying sweet breeze that passes by my window almost every day at noon I was discovering "diamante" style of poem which our instructor Mr. Duwadi sir introduced. To be frank I don’t have many ideas about format of poem in English literature but discovering new things is my favorite part of this class. Here is my own version of diamante poem:   Ancient Primordial Foregone Hunting Surviving Fighting Civilization Culture Economy Science Inventing Empowering Composing Medicine Comfort Space Modern Following the diamante format, presentation part took over. The first group was Chandan Mahato's and Siris Mainali's group in which they discussed about memo-writing. Memo writing was something we well discussed in previous semester so it was easy to understand what my friends were presenting. Their presentation topic was followed by "The four tusk elephant" which was presented by Nisc...
